Mid Point Reflections
So now that we're half way through the course, I can honestly say it isn't any harder than I thought it would be. But it is just as hard as I thought it would be, considering my technical ineptness. I am finding some things throughout that I'd like to use next year in a limited manner, but I'm also finding that I wouldn't make a very good online student myself. Some of that probably has to do with my learning style, and that makes me wonder how the rest of the participants in the class feel. Just as in a face to face class, it seems essential to develop online content in a way that reaches several learning styles in hopes of it being accessible to everyone enrolled. I do really like some of the ideas presented though, and many of them are just good techniques to use no matter what means of delivery you choose.

Hi Tom--Yes, some of us do tend to prefer f2f situations rather than "interacting" electronically. I believe we might attribute this, in no small measure, to our God-gifted makeup / personality style. This is one reason I was called into clinical psychology which (until recently) is primarily a f2f endeavor. And yet, participation in an online program such as this has challenged me to seek "new", alternative ways of connecting with others. It's a stretching experience--not unlike PE class in middle school! (By the way, as a middle school student I was convinced that "PE" stood for "Physical Exhaustion"!)
ReplyDeleteTom,
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with you! In online learning we must have multiple ways to connect with the different learners. I may be old fashioned, but I still like face to face learning through video.
I see the number 1 issue in online leaning is having the time to engage in the class. Over the last 5-weeks I have found myself blocking out 2-hours several days a week for this class; however, when I was interrupted or pressured to get the items completed I found myself not do an antiquate job. If a learner takes an online class, they must have the time commitment to do it.
